Folio [38 by 25 cm]. XLIV,924; [2],708,152 pp. + 2 frontispiece portraits engraved by Eric Geringius + one engraved plate (medals). Numerous engraved text illustrations (coins and medals).

Two volumes, contemporary full calf, spines richly gilt in seven compartments.
From the library of Nils Palmstierna [1696-1766], Baron, officer, and state councillor.

First edition. In 1748 translated into French as Histoire de Charles XII, Roi de Suède. 1-4, and in 1745-51 translated into German as Leben Carl des Zwlöften, Königs in Schweden. 1-3.
1731 fick Jöran Andersson Nordberg (1677-1744), konungens hovpredikant, i uppdrag av kanslikollegium att skriva Karl XII:s historia. Med ledning av bl.a. egna minnesbilder (han tillbringade åren 1709-1715 i fångenskap i Ryssland), sin fältjournal, fältdagböcker m.m. sammanställde Nordberg sitt stora verk som också översattes till tyska och franska.
