A painting, ink and colour on paper, attributed to Wu Changshuo (1844-1927) in collaboration with Ni Mogeng (1855-1919).

Motif of fishes in a pond, calligraphy, dated in the year of 'yimo' (year 1895) and two red seals. Measurement motif 32x130 cm. Measurement with frame 47x152 cm.

Provenance

The painting was aquired in Japan by a Swedish family in the 1960's.

More information

The four characters to the left side reads "墨耕补鱼" (fish added by mogeng). The last hand note "Ni Mogeng, Wu Changshuo Collaboration, Lotus and Gold Fish". The long text on the right is a note by Wu Changshuo, telling us about the reason for this particular painting:

"My old friend Qiunong wrote me, asking me to paint a lotus scene for one of his friends who is an extraordinary author. He would not tell me the name as they are from different generations..."
