Sven Jonson arbetade med de rent abstrakta motiven under åren omkring 1930 och verk från den här perioden är relativt sällsynta i hans produktion. Denna tid var händelserik för Jonson och konstnärskamraterna i den nyligen instiftade Halmstadgruppen. De fick flera fina utställningserbjudanden - från Halmstad, Lund och Göteborg - och förstås "Art Concret", Otto G. Carlsunds utställning av franska och svenska konkretister på Stockholmsutställningen 1930.
