Under en vistelse i berlin 1832 lär von Düben ha uppdragit åt Johan Fredrik Ernst von Vegesack att uppsöka prinsen av Vasa. De brev som uppsnappats föranledde åtal för högmålsbrott mot von Düben och von Vegesack.
De dömdes till landsflykt. Genom den år 1834 utfärdade amnestin för politiska förbrytare fick von Düben rätt att återvända till Sverige. Von Düben och von Vegesack var de sista svesnkarna att dömas till landsflykt.
Goucherna utfördes 1833 då von Düben befann sig i landsflykt.
