Introduced in 1976, the Patek Philippe Nautilus marked a turning point in luxury watchmaking. Designed by the legendary Gérald Genta, its distinctive porthole-inspired case, integrated bracelet and unconventional use of stainless steel challenged traditional perceptions of a luxury wristwatch.
In 1981, Patek Philippe introduced reference 3800, a more compact interpretation of the original "Jumbo" Nautilus, reference 3700. Measuring 37.5 mm, the new model retained the unmistakable design while introducing a central seconds hand and a movement developed by Patek Philippe. The reference remained in production for 25 years, until 2006, when it was succeeded by reference 5800.
Dating to circa 1999, the present example features the characteristic blue-black horizontally embossed dial and integrated stainless steel bracelet. The watch was purchased pre-owned by its current owner from Watches of Bond Street in London in May 2000, for GBP 3,600, as documented by the accompanying purchase receipt.
Further documentation includes service records from Bo Berggren Urhandel in Stockholm, together with its Patek Philippe presentation box and additional bracelet links.
