An openwork bowl with the engraved heraldic coat of arms and the engraved signature of Hans van den Broek, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands in the 1980s. Marked with maker's mark, and Rikkoert Silverhuis Schoonhoven, silver mark 835. Length 30 cm, height 9 cm. Weight 434 g.

Osmo Lares was a distinguished Finnish diplomat who devoted his career to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His early postings took him to Prague (1956–1959), Cologne (1960–1964), and Paris (1966–1969). He subsequently served as Ambassador to Tokyo – with side accreditation to Seoul – from 1972 to 1978, followed by appointments to Canberra (1983–1987), The Hague (1987–1989), and Dublin (1989–1991).
