Johannes Petrus Ericus:

Humanae linguae genesis. Partis primae tomus primus. (All published.)

Venetiis, typis Francisci Tramontini, sumtibus autoris, 1697. 8vo. (22 x 16 cms) [16] + 186 pp. With 8 engraved vignettes.

Contemporary full vellum, bookplate for Säfstaholm library, signature on title of Nils Bonde, dated Venice 15 October 1703 (in Italian). Small catalogue clip pasted to rear pastedown.

In this work, Johannes Petrus Ericus attempted to prove that all languages, including Hebrew, originate from Greek. The provenance refers to army officer and governor of Halland Nils Bonde (1685-1760), Count of Björnö, owner of Hörningsholm and Toftaholm, student at Åbo Academy in 1695. He accompanied his father on his embassy to Holland and England in 1697-98, studied in Tübingen in 1702-03 and traveled in Austria, Italy, France and Holland in 1703-05.
