Ein Brieff D. Mart. Luther wider die Sabbather an einen guten Freund.

Wittemberg, Nickel Schirlentz, 1538. 4to. [32] leaves incl. final blank. Title within wide woodcut border (Cranach School, Luther, Title Borders 25) depicting the story of Salome and the execution of John the Baptist in four scenes.

Later worn blank wrappers, waterstained throughout, occasional marginal annotations (some cropped) and underlinings.

First edition. VD 16 L 4182. Luther was prompted to write this anti-Jewish treatise by the activities of the Sabbath believers in Moravia and Silesia, a group that had emerged within the radical Reformation Anabaptist movement in Moravia, founded c. 1528 by Oswald Glait.
