A lot of 12 works 1676-1700 relating to Pope Innocentius XI, born Benedetto Odescalchi (Como 1611-1689 Rome), Pope 1676-1689 and beatified in 1956. He is celebrated as one of the most prominent popes of the 17th century, and is remembered for reforming the papal curia, eliminating nepotism, and financially supporting the European coalitions against the Ottoman Empire. (His nephew Livio Odescalchi helped Innocentius finance the expedition which ended the Turkish siege at the Battle of Vienna in 1683. Livio Odescalchi himself fought with distinction in the battle, and was made an Imperial Prince and given the title Duke of Syrmia by Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I.) These books all bear the round stamp, bookplate and/or signature of their most recent owner, prince Alexander Erba Odescalchi (Budapest 1914-2008 Saltsjöbaden), who fled Hungary for Sweden with his wife in 1944, before the arrival of the Red Army. Alexander Erba Odescalchi was an avid collector of books and other items relating to his family history.
