ALLMOGE – SWEDISH FOLK ART
The folk furniture culture of Hälsingland and Jämtland is one of the foremost examples of Swedish folk craftsmanship. The farmers in northern Sweden were wealthy from selling wood and flax. They expressed their wealth in large farmhouses with beautifully decorated interiors, painted furniture and skillfully decorated bridal gifts. Bukowskis’ theme auction contains many beautiful examples of this style, including elegant cabinets from Jämtland, a sideboard from Järvsjö and wall cabinets from Forsa. The theme includes a number of bridal gifts from Hälsingland in the form of chests, wedding spoons and, not least, beautiful flax knives. The unique fresco by Jonas Hertman originally painted for a farm in Mo in Hälsingland is a real rarity.
