A CARPET, an antique/semi-antique Shirvan, ca 234 x 130 cm (as well as the ends with 1 cm flat weave).

A waffle patterned ground in ivory and dark brown contours with a large polychrome honcha medallion and corner ornaments with a similar pattern. A wide red main border with stylized flowers and comb motives. According to the famous Caucasian scholar Latif Kerimov, honcha means a “present served on a tray”.

Some partly a little harder wear, slightly dirty, minor stains and colour run areas, a small hole. The sides have insignificant fold wear.

A similar rug exists at the “Carpet and Azerbaijan’s Folk Art Museum” in Baku, (inv. n.884).
