Anders Österlin ingick, tillsammans med bl.a CO Hultén och Max Walter Svanberg, i imaginistgruppen. Liksom Hultén blev han medlem av Cobragruppen och det är då han utför sina absolut mest attraktiva och konsthistoriskt viktiga verk. Den aktuella målningen är från 1952 och innehåller, precis som i Hulténs målningar från tiden, inslag av fågel- och kvinnosymboler. Österlin är dock mer subtil, starkt påverkad av Klee, och i målningarna från denna tid skapar han något helt unikt i svensk konsthistoria, tillika något starkt oavsett vilken målare i Cobragruppen man jämför med.
