Thea Margit Ekström var en svensk bildkonstnär och musiker född i Stockholm. Hon studerade vid Konstakademin för Oscar Reutersvärd men var huvudsakligen självlärd. Ekström arbetade med tecken och skapade verk inspirerade av kinesiska tuschmålningar, egyptiska hieroglyfer och konströrelser som surrealism och imaginism.
Ekström arbetade i en speciell teknik där hon skrapade sig genom målningens tunna lager och fyllde sedan i ristningarna med ny färg. Resultatet gav bilden en matt glans där ytan är sprucken och spröd, samtidigt som den tycks hårt pressad.
