Bror Hjorth är en av de mest betydande och uppskattade konstnärerna i svenskt 1900-tal. Hjorth var utbildad under Bourdelle i Paris på 20-talet blev Hjorth vän med bland annat Giacometti som var avundsjuk på sin väns skulpturala volymer. Efter hemkomst till Sverige utvecklade så Hjorth den folkligt nästan naivistiska bildvärld som han nu är mest känd för. Den virtuost utförda teckningen av en fiolspelare är utförd i Paris under 1920-talet. Denna ovanligt stora och genomarbetade teckning framstår snarast som en genomarbetad målning.
