More information

Cabinet no. 2215 was designed by Josef Frank in 1957, a classic piece of furniture that was again included in Svenskt Tenn's production in 2018. The design of the cabinet has an exquisite balance between horizontal and vertical lines and a deep contrast between
light and dark. This is not least reflected in the combined materials birch, elm and padouk. The high legs bear witness to Josef Frank's thoughts on the importance of being able to discern the meeting between floor and wall in a
room. The cabinet has ten drawers, and the round field in the center can be seen as his way of introducing baroque features into the form. Today, the cabinet is manufactured by Eriksson and Söner outside Nyköping.

Designer

Josef Frank was born in Austria and studied architecture in Vienna. As an architect, he worked with private home areas, villas and apartment buildings. In 1925 he started his own interior design firm Haus und Garten together with two architect colleagues. In connection with the advance of the Nazis, he emigrated to Sweden and was employed in 1934 at Svenskt Tenn. After the outbreak of World War II, Josef Frank, who came from a Jewish family, was forced into exile in New York. At Svenskt Tenn, he made an impact on the product range for four decades; especially when it comes to furniture and fabric prints.
