Bildkonstnär född 1895 i Edsele, Västernorrlands län. Studerade hos konstnären Carl Wilhelmson 1912 och hos Gunnar Hallström 1914. Därefter studier han i Köpenhamn 1919-1921. Han har mest känd för hans fina och detaljerade stadsmotiv med gamla gränder, huvudsakligen från Stockholm.
Han var far till barnfilmsregissören Olle Hellbom, känd för många älskade och idag klassiska filmatiseringar av Astrid Lindgrens verk.
