Grand Duchess Alexandra / Alexandra Pavlovna Romanova (1783- 1801):

Autograph Letter Signed in French, 11 lines in brown-black ink, dated St. Petersburg 28/8 January 1798. 17.4 x 14.4 cms. Leaf cut quite close to the text and loosely attached to a support sheet.

In the letter, Alexandra announces the birth of her brother, Grand Duke Michael Pavlovitch (1798-1849). The recipient is not named but is evidently a close relative:

“My very dear Tante. With great pleasure I fulfill the mission that Mother has just given me, to inform Your Royal Highness of the birth of a brother who has just increased our family, as well as Her good state of health. […] Your very affectionate little Nièce Alexandrine.”

Alexandra was the daughter of Tsar Paul I of Russia and Maria Fyodorovna and sister of Tsar Alexander I and Tsar Nicholas I.
