More information

Fredrik Wretman was born in 1953 in Stockholm and is a Swedish sculptor and photographer. He received his education at Gerleborgsskolan from 1972 to 1975, ABF's art school from 1975 to 1976, and the Royal Institute of Art between 1980 and 1985. He has also served as a teacher at both the Royal Institute of Art and Konstfack. Wretman is considered one of Sweden's most prominent artists and has completed many commissions for artistic embellishments.

Fredrik Wretman has explored various art genres, including installations, performance art, sculpture, graphics, and photography. His experimental approach is characterized by a constant search for new and innovative paths within the art world, where water has been a prominent theme for the past 20 years. This theme is clearly visible both in the placement of Wretman's public artworks and in his water installations. In his creative work, Wretman experiments with a diversity of materials, including bronze, plastic, and wax for his sculptures, often using himself as a model for many of his works.

More about Fredrik Wretman

Wretman, Fredrik b. 1953 in Stockholm. Swedish sculptor and photographer. Educated at Gerleborgsskolan 1972-1975, ABF's art school 1975-1976, Royal Institute of Art 1980-1985, where he has also been a teacher, as well as at Konstfack. He is one of Sweden's most established artists with a multitude of public art commissions behind him. Early on, he utilised the video camera to find new expressions and representations. In the project "Goatrans" at Färgfabriken, he performed himself in 32 orange-coloured editions "as Buddha" alongside water projections from the Pacific Ocean, the Amazon, and the Trondheim Fjord. For more than twenty years, he has worked with water installations, often in large formats where he reshapes the surroundings into infinity. Reflections and mirror images on water surfaces evoke surprising illusions and ambiguities. Fredrik Wretman has a remarkable ability to find new paths within art.
