Astri Bergman-Taube, ”Den Gyldene Fredens Pokal”
Copy of KSSS (The Royal Swedish Yacht Club) trophy "The Gyldene Fredens pokal" established in 1929. Lidded cup supported by four dolphins. Relief decoration of sailing boats on choppy waves. On the lid, an amorino with the message "Pax". Bronze with green patina, height 55 cm. On a round wooden base, height 3 cm. Total height 58 cm.
Wear due to age and use.
The Gyldene Freden Cup, established in 1929 and designed by Astri Bergman-Taube, is part of the collections at the Maritime Museum, Stockholm. Accession number: 1980:034. Donor: Royal Swedish Yacht Club.
'Den Gyldene Freden' is a famous restaurant in the Old Town of Stockholm founded in 1721. It is one of the world's oldest restaurant. It has been the haunt of many Swedish writers and artists, like Carl Michael Bellman, Anders Zorn, and Evert Taube (married to Astri Bergman-Taube) through the centuries, and was often named in their songs and poems. Anders Zorn acquired the restaurant and it was subsequently donated to the Swedish Academy. While still open to the public it is the venue for the weekly Thursday dinner of Swedish Academy, which selects the annual Nobel Prize winner in Literature.
