More information

Ylva Ogland is one of the most significant contemporary artists of her generation. Ogland lives through her painting, in the creation of art and is practically in the middle of the exhibition, in the performance. She stands at the heart of contemporary art life, strongly present in both her generous exhibition practice and her intensely personal visual world, while also engaging in dialogue with the great masters of art history. Her artistry is built on personal experiences, personal mythologies, and the subconscious, where art history is always present. In her painting, she processes memories, herself, and parallel worlds where Venus, the Oracle, and her mirror twin Snöfrid play prominent roles. For Ogland, painting is her language. Ylva Ogland and Snöfrid are one. Hence the artist's new name, Ylva Snöfrid.

"Looking at the Unconscious (Rose Quartz)" from 2011 is an installation featuring two paintings on easels, with crystals of rose quartz, positioned so that the paintings reflect each other. Both paintings depict the artist herself and feature the recurring peephole in Ogland's art. The installation has been exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris in 2013 and the following year at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm.
