More information

Martin Soto Climent, born in 1977 in Mexico, currently lives and works in Tepoztlán, Mexico. He earned a degree in industrial design from UNAM, Mexico City, in 1996, followed by a master’s degree in visual arts from the same institution in 2015. Soto Climent is renowned for his ability to manipulate everyday objects into surreal installations and sculptures. His art often references the forms of the body and the psychology of desire, exploring themes related to consumption. Through subtle recontextualization and delicate rearrangement, his works frequently embody the humble quality of the ready-made or appear as fragile assemblages that delve into issues of temporality, desire, decay, and marginality.

In 2013, Soto Climent co-founded the project space Lulu in Mexico City alongside curator Chris Sharp. In Sweden, he has exhibited at Andréhn Schiptjenko in Stockholm in 2024 and 2023. His recent solo exhibitions include shows at Andréhn Schiptjenko, Paris; Museo de la Ciudad de México, Mexico City; Museo Casa Rusca, Locarno; Karma International, Zurich; and Union Pacific, London.

His work has also been featured in group exhibitions at Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich; the 13th Mercosur Biennial, Porto Alegre; Villa Carmignac, Porquerolles; and Hauser & Wirth, St. Moritz. Soto Climent’s art is part of several prestigious permanent collections, including the Cleveland Museum of Art, Ohio; Colección Jumex, Mexico City; Fondation François Pinault, Venice; and the Hessel Museum, New York.
