År 1984 målade Peter Dahl motiv och händelser från Carl Michael Bellmans Fredmans Epistlar, utförda både som monumentala oljemålningar och i litografier.

"Överfärden - Stolta stad", vilket skildrar fader Movitz seglats till Djurgården med Ulla Winblad, är Peter Dahls i särklass mest kända och eftertraktade bild och Bellman-tolkning.

Originalmålningen, den tredelade ”Stolta stad” klubbade Bukowskis för rekordpriset 5,7 miljoner kronor den 26 april 2005. Målningen ropades in av den åländske entreprenören Anders Wiklöf och verket hänger sedan dess på Anders Wiklöfs privata konstmuseum, Andersudde på Åland.
