Provenance

Gift to curator Bo Sommarström (18 April 1923 – 31 August 2008). Sommarström was employed at the Swedish Museum of Ethnography from 1949 to 1951, at the Hedin Expedition from 1951 to 1952, and at Östasiatiska museet in Stockholm from 1953 to 1957. He was a curator at the Nordic Museum in Stockholm from 1962 to 1967 and senior curator at the Museum of Ethnography/People's Museum in Stockholm from 1967 to 1988. He was the director of Sven Hedin's foundation from 1969 to 1977. He became a Doctor of Philosophy honoris causa in 1994.

Bo Sommarström visited Asia for research trips starting in 1968, including Mongolia, East Turkestan in 1982, and Tibet in 1987.
