Ur serien 1866 – Nationalmuseum, som under våren 2015 visades på Konstakademin i Stockholm.
När Nationalmuseums museibyggnad var tömd på såväl konst som kontorsinredning inför renoveringen, fick Denise Grünstein möjlighet att göra ett konstprojekt i det tomma huset. Det blev bildsviten 1866 som syftar på museets invigningsår. Men bilderna går egentligen inte att fixera i tiden, det går inte med bestämdhet att säga om de hör till historien, nuet eller framtiden. Som konstnär spelar Denise Grünstein medvetet på dessa tvetydigheter och låter betraktarna färdas mellan två poler, som aldrig går att nå och som är varandras motsatser – det förgångna och framtiden. I 1866 återkommer hon till olika teman som hon tidigare arbetat med där de tomma museirummen får fungera som fond till hennes bildvärld.
