This brooch originates from a tiara once owned by Countess Ebba Eugenie Armfelt, later von Etter (1831–1922). She was the daughter of Alexander Armfelt, who held several official positions at the Russian imperial court in St. Petersburg. Countess Armfelt served as a lady-in-waiting to Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, wife of Emperor Nicholas I of Russia.
Following Countess Ebba Eugenie Armfelt’s death without direct heirs, her jewellery was inherited within the family. One of her tiaras was dismantled and transformed into several brooches, which were gifted to the women of the family. This brooch is one of those pieces.
