Maj Arnell (1910-2005) had her major breakthrough at the age of 85 with the exhibition 'Maj Arnell och 5 unga' at Waldemarsudde in 1995. Like her close friend Alf Lindberg, she became freer and more open with age. Arnell was educated at Valand and was active in Gothenburg and on Tjörn. She is represented in several collections, including Göteborgs konstmuseum, Moderna museet and Nationalmuseum.
