Håkan Rehnberg är född 1953 i Göteborg, och är idag verksam i Stockholm. Rehnberg är känd för sitt måleri som förenar formell precision med ett djupt utforskande av sinnlighetens möjligheter. I sitt konstnärskap har han utvecklat en unik teknik där han kombinerar oljefärg med sandblästrat akrylglas. Denna metod skapar en spännande dialog med det amerikanska färgfältsmåleriet, representerat av konstnärer som Barnett Newman och Mark Rothko, samt med Gerhard Richters abstrakta verk. Rehnbergs konst rör sig i gränslandet mellan det synliga och det dolda, där färgen både fungerar som ett kamouflage och som ett verktyg för att lyfta fram det som annars förblir osynligt för blotta ögat. Genom att använda akrylglas frigör han målningarna från dukens traditionella tyngd och textur, vilket framhäver det flytande och obestämda i hans måleri.
Rehnbergs verk har ställts ut på flera framstående institutioner, både i Sverige och internationellt. Bland hans soloutställningar märks Moderna Museet i Stockholm (2015), Galerie Nordenhake i Stockholm och Berlin (2010, 2011, 2012, 2015), Malmö Konstmuseum (2007), Vida Konsthall på Öland (2005) och Liljevalchs Konsthall i Stockholm (2002). Han nominerades till Carnegie Art Award 2002 och representerade Sverige vid Sydneybiennalen 2010. Sedan år 2000 är Håkan Rehnberg även ledamot av Kungliga Akademien för de fria konsterna.

Håkan Rehnberg is one of Sweden’s leading artists. He lives and works in Stockholm and has, for several decades, developed a form of painting that combines formal precision with a strong interest in the possibilities of colour and sensuality.
Rehnberg has developed a distinctive technique using oil paint on acrylic glass. By replacing the traditional canvas with acrylic glass, he transforms the physical qualities of painting. The material’s lightness and transparency emphasise the open and fluid character of his works.
His art can be related to the American Color Field tradition, with artists such as Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko, as well as to the abstract painting of Gerhard Richter. Colour plays a central role in Rehnberg’s work, used both to reveal and conceal. His paintings thus move between the visible and the hidden, inviting questions about what we actually see.
Rehnberg has exhibited extensively in Sweden and internationally and has been a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts since 2000.
