Teruhide Kato studied at Kyoto Art College and was originally a successfull designer of kimono patterns. At the age of 50, he developed his artistic practice in woodblock printing; his works, often in tanzaku format, frequently depict Kyoto and evoke the classic woodblock prints of the 19th century, but with a modern touch.
