Efter andra världskriget blir Ragnar Persons måleri allt ljusare. Att närma sig ljuset blev en drivkraft. Konstnären bestämmer sig 1951 för att utforska det starka och speciella ljus som råder i Karibien. Detta ljus lockade Ragnar Person att under sex veckor delta på en resa med Svenska Amerikalinjens kryssningsfartyg ”m/s Stockholm”.
Resan gick från Göteborg till bland annat Cuba, Jamaica, Trinidad och Saint Bartholmé. I det behagliga klimatet arbetade RP utomhus, under bar himmel, för att fånga det rätta ljuset. Besättning ombord på m/s Stockholm var behjälplig när man insåg att man hade en konstnär ombord. De hjälpte Ragnar att skapa en liten ateljé utan tak genom att spänna upp segelduk runt det översta däcket på fartyget. Där stod RP och målade ”S:t Krus” under färden till nästa hamn.
