Auktioner fyller ett eget kapitel i Ragnar Persons måleri och är motiv han ofta återkom till. De skildrade auktionerna hade många gånger en bakomliggande, tragisk orsak. Det var bohag som vemodigt skingrades när ägaren kanske inte klarat av betalningarna eller avlidit.

På gårdsplanen syns de föremål och möbler som gått under klubban. Spekulanter hade tidigare trängts kring roparen. De som kommit, kanske mest för att träffa folk och få en pratstund med vänner och bekanta.
