Christian Blache (1838 - 1920) was an apprentice in shipbuilding, a naval soldier, and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. There, he was a student of the renowned Danish marine painter Carl Frederik Sørensen. He undertook a long journey in Europe in 1872 and later travelled in Denmark, Scotland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands, painting ships.
