Målaren, skulptören och grafikern Olle Kåks föddes 1941 i Hedemora. 1962-68 studerade han vid Konsthögskolan i Stockholm, där han själv blev professor i måleri 1979. 1987 tog han också över rektorstjänsten, vilken han behöll fram till 1999. Som konstnär arbetade Kåks i både realistiska och abstrakta former, med färg och form i fokus. I stort lät han sig inspireras av det existentiella och närliggande i tillvaron - familj och barn, livets outsägliga gåta. Även popkonstens störste ikon, Andy Warhol, inspirerade honom, samt skönanden Henri Matisse. Kåks skaffade sig ett namn såväl i Sverige som utomlands.
