More information

The German artist Adolf Bock (1890 - 1968) is considered one of the foremost European marine painters. Thanks to his solid knowledge of ships, he attracted considerable attention both within maritime and artistic circles. As a naval soldier in the German fleet, Bock had developed an eye for all essential details.

KØBENHAVN was a Danish school ship that disappeared in 1928 in the South Atlantic with 60 men on board. In 1945, Bock was aboard the transport ship WILHELM GUSTLOFF, which was torpedoed and sank, resulting in the loss of 6,000 lives. However, Bock was rescued and later settled in Helsingborg in Sweden.
