Traditional Chinese nail guards (Zhi Jia Tao, 指甲套), also known as "Hu Zhi (护指, finger protection)" were used by palace noblewomen during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The nail guards, or nail covers, were made of gold and silver or other precious materials to protect the nails and show status.
