Provenance

The Carina and Lennart Bogg Collection. Carina and Lennart Bogg moved to China in 1983, where Lennart worked for UNICEF and Carina at the Norwegian Embassy’s preschool. Their time there coincided with China’s reopening after the Cultural Revolution – a period marked by strong artistic development and increased international exchange. Through close contact with artists and visits to exhibitions and galleries, the Swedish couple’s art collection gradually took shape. It was presented in Sweden at Liljevalchs konsthall in the exhibition “Masters from China” in the summer of 1989. Since then, the collection has continued to grow, reflecting the couple’s interest in China’s rich cultural life and diverse artistic expressions.

Designer

Born in 1962 in Yixing, Jiangsu province, Yiming is the courtesy name of Fan Jianjun 范建军, a Yixing ware artist. He is the son of renowned Yixing ware master Cao Wanfen 曹婉芬. Fan began his training in 1979 under ceramic carving master Tan Yaokun 谈姚坤 (1920–1991), and in 1980 entered the Jiangsu Yixing Zisha Ware Craft Factory as an apprentice to senior artist Bao Zhiqiang 鲍志强. He later studied ceramic decoration and design at Wuxi Light Industry College (now Jiangnan University), graduating in 1988. Returning to the factory, Fan further refined his skills under his mother’s guidance, integrating ceramic carving with Yixing pot-making. He developed a distinctive “miniature carving” (weike 微刻) style, characterized by clear, fluid lines and an elegant sense of lightness. His background in Chinese calligraphy informs his refined compositions and use of ancient scripts, including oracle bone script, in surface decoration.
