More about Takeji  Asano

Takeji Asano (1900-1999) studied art in Kyoto and began his career with oilpaintings. He then moved on to woodblock prints within the Sōsaku-hanga movement. As such, he created prints from start to finish, drawing, carving and printing them himself. In the 1950s, he switched to the process used by the Shin-hanga movement, using the traditional working method of ukiyo-e artists. For these woodblock prints, he designed the motifs and collaborated with woodcarvers, printers and publishers. Later, he turned to a more individualistic and innovative style and continued to create until the very last years of his long life.
