During the summers between 1917 and 1923, Nils Tydén stayed with his artist colleagues at Sjövillan by Smedsudden. Without being an organised artist group, the artists were united by a desire to depict their surroundings with a quiet, modest affection, often expressed in a poetic and naïve manner. The artists came to be known as the "intimists" after August Brunius coined the term in a review in Dagens Nyheter in 1917.
