”Den store Don Cherry”
"Cherry (1936-1995) bodde på 1960-talet i Gamla stan i Stockholm, sambo med Moki Karlsson Cherry, far till Eagle-Eye Cherry och styvfar till Neneh Cherry. Han var en avantgardistisk jazzmusiker som spelat med John Coltrane, Ornette Colman, Sonny Rollins, Lou Reed och andra. I Sverige blev han en apostel för ”världsmusiken”. Jag imponerades av hans spel på en så kallad fickkornett. Tonerna fladdrade och hoppade omkring, till synes fritt. Mina försök att imitera hans spel var förgäves, trots att jag skaffade ett likadant instrument."
