Lund 1832-40. 27 x 19,5 cms. 290; + 304 pp. + lithographed title + 200 hand-coloured lithographed plates by Magnus Körner (37 mammals and 163 birds).

Two volumes, later full calf gilt, top edge gilt, two sides largely uncut, esp. in vol. 1 (G. Hedberg). Lightly worn, top front joint starting, occasional slight spotting and a few small stains, one leaf in the section about the otter with a central repair (no loss) and a few lines of text crossed out with a few lines in ink. A few plates in the second part more heavily foxed, two leaves of text and a plate in the second part with an ink-stain in the uppermost margin, text with a few neat marginal repairs. All printed wrappers bound at the end of each volume, a little spotted and stained, but fine.

Lindberg, Swedish Books, 63. A classic among Swedish illustrated zoological books. A monograph by Björn Dal, Jakob Christensson & Johan Cederlund about the illustrations appeared in 2015, ”Ritade efter naturen. Magnus Körners & Sven Nilssons zoologiska planscher” (in Swedish, beautifully illustrated).
