The institution for the training of artillery officers, the precursor to the Swedish National Defence College, was relocated in 1817 to Marieberg on Kungsholmen in Stockholm. During the 19th century, it underwent several name changes to the Higher Artillery Training School, the War College, and the Artillery and Engineering College.
Fredrik Magnus Bäck, son of the Bank Commissioner Louis Bäck and Marie Charlotte Segercrona, was active as an architect at the Office of the Chief Intendant in Stockholm. Among other works, Bäck produced the designs for the decorations at the coronation of King Carl XIV Johan in 1818. Most of his known drawings are today held in the collections of Uppsala University.
