More information

Mundus was the name of a furniture manufacturing company, active (at least) in several locations within the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Factories seem to have existed in various places, as the products bear different labels, such as "Budapest," "Borlova," "Czechoslovakia," etc. Some of the furniture was co-signed with "Jacob and Josef Kohn."
In 1914, Mundus merged with J. & J. Kohn, and in 1922 with Gebrüder Thonet, the company belonging to the famous designer Michael Thonet. After this merger, Thonet-Mundus became the largest furniture manufacturer in the world at that time.
