Detta är den första kartan över landet Yemen som bygger på kunskap insamlad på plats, med vetenskapliga metoder. Den är baserad på matematikern och kartografen Carsten Niebuhrs observationer under den danska arabiska expiditionen 1761-67. Från vilken han var den ende som kom levande hem.
Yemen var vid den här tiden en del av "Det Lyckliga Arabien" och synonymt med kaffe. I princip allt kaffe som importerades i övriga världen kom ifrån hamnstaden Al-Makha, eller Mocha. Därav de två kaffekvistarna som flankerar kartuschen.
