Stig Olson var en fantastisk tecknare, men kom att prova de flesta uttryck. Måleriet följdes av collage i stort format, en teknik där han var mästare. Landskap, personporträtt och figurkompositioner – ibland nog så bisarra. Ilskna hundar, änglar och självporträtten som aldrig tog en ände. Porträtten av Gustav Fröding gav honom Fröding-medaljen år 1998.
Stig Olson finns representerad på Nationalmuseum, Gripsholms porträttsamling, Moderna Museet i Stockholm, Göteborgs Konstmuseum, Malmö Museum, H.M.K., Värmlands Museum samt museerna i Örebro, Norrköping, Linköping, Visby, Ystad, Västerås och Eskilstuna, och på Uffizierna i Florens med ett självporträtt.
