Hjalmar Gabrielson was one of Sweden's foremost collectors during the first half of the 20th century, his collection included works by Renoir, Cezanne, Matisse, Braque, Léger, Chagall, Willumsen, Viking Eggeling, Kandinsky, Kurt Schwitters, El Lissitzky, László Moholy-Nagy, as well as many of the Swedish modernists such as Isaac Grünewald, Sigrid Hjertén, among others.
