Jennifer Bolande har sedan början av åttiotalet fört fram idéer och strategier kring fotografisk appropriation, videkonst och installation. Hon har likt Barbra Krüger och Cindy Sherman bidragit till en omdefiniering av synen på fotografi, från dokumentär redskap till en konstgenre i sin egen rätt. Bolandes konceptuella verk har av fotografen Sharon Lockhart beskrivit som: “Photographic sculptures and sculptural photographs”.
