Do Xuan Doan was born in 1937. He was a student of the lacquer painter Nguyen Gia Tri (1908–1993) and graduated from the Vietnam National University of Fine Arts in 1961. His lacquer paintings often depict the nature and people of Hanoi in the 1930s and 1940s. His paintings are characterized by bold colors.
