More about mårten medbo

Mårten Medbo (born 1964) is a Swedish ceramic artist who has also worked with glass from time to time. He was drawn to ceramics early on and earned some experience through several internships and summer jobs, including at the Gustavsberg factory, where Medbo had the skilled potter Sven Wejsfeldt as a mentor at the wheel. Mårten Medbo later studied at Konstfack in Stockholm and graduated in 1992. He established a studio in Gotland the same year. Mårten Medbo earned his doctorate at HDK (University of Gothenburg, School of Design and Crafts) in 2016, becoming the first Swede to obtain a doctorate in craft. His studio eventually moved from Gotland to Södermanland where he is still active today. Mårten Medbo's artistic development has continued steadily, and his curiosity about the possibilities of materials knows no bounds.

Mårten Medbo is represented in several public collections, including: Nationalmuseum, Stockholm; Röhsska Museet, Gothenburg; Smålands Museum, Växjö; Eskilstuna Konstmuseum; John Michael Kohler Art Center (USA).

Some notable solo exhibitions include: The Swedish Institute in Paris (2013), Galerie NeC, Paris (2009, 2011, 2018, 2022), Berg Gallery, Stockholm (2021, 2024), Katrineholms Konsthall (2017), Ebelingmuseet, Eskilstuna (2019).

Examples of international group exhibitions: Venus over Manhattan, New York; Crafts Council London; Design Museum Gent.
