Success for Swedish design and crafts at the Auction Modern Art + Design

Bukowskis is pleased to present a fantastic result for the design and crafts at the auction Modern Art + Design. Scandinavian design and crafts ended at sensational prices showing a greater demand than ever before. The international interest in Swedish carpets is still strong and masterpieces of glass sold at very high prices.

”It's incredibly to open our spring season with one of Bukowskis most dynamic auctions ever, where the best in modern art, crafts and design is gathered under one roof. Through our international availability, we are able to sell Scandinavian design at high prices worldwide. An auction that, with its carefully curated content, clarifies Bukowskis as a marketplace for fine art and quality design”, says Louise Arén CEO Bukowskis

A magnificent ebony desk made by Hjalmar Jackson created a whisper of excitement in the auction hall with a final price of 857 500 SEK, a new Swedish record for him. A unique cabinet by Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn, was sold for 490 000 SEK and Barbro Nilsson's carpet "Guldklimp" sold at 255 000 SEK.

*”I have a soft spot for the great Danes Hans J. Wegner and Finn Juhl and this auction offered the best of the best from their active period, with intense bidding from all over the world. There is a great demand for Swedish handicrafts right now, Axel Einar Hjorth's table "Mora" made for the Stockholm Exhibition 1930, sold for 392 000 SEK and a carved and sculpted table by Knut Fjaestad are both phenomenal examples, the latter sold for 306 250 SEK, says Eva Seeman, head of 20th century design and works of art.

”Ceramics and glass received a lot of attention and a beautiful “Ariel-vas” by Edvin Öhrström from the 1937 premiere year was one of the department's highlights. It was sold for 395 250 SEK among many other fine copies from the same designer”, says Camilla Behrer, specialist modern works of art & design.

”It is fantastic that Märta-Måås Fjetterström and Barbro Nilsson, two of our leading textile artists, are so big internationally. They have opened doors for new generations of artist within textile. The auction's rich range and excellent results show a continued strong international interest in carpets”, says Anette Granlund, head of carpet, textile and islamic works of art department.
