Once again Bukowskis delivered sensational results as the Modern Art + Design auction became a success for our foremost Scandinavian designers such as Poul Kjaerholm, Hans J. Wegner, Axel Einar Hjorth and Folke Bensow.
- Bukowskis presents an outstanding result today, showing continuity in successful sales, a high-quality selection and an international presence. The result confirms our leading position in the market for top quality design and craftsmanship, says Louise Arén, CEO Bukowskis.
An exceptionally fine collection of ceramics, made by Pablo Picasso in Madoura, Vallauris, France during the mid 20th century, resulted in intensive bidding with great international demand. The collection's top number, the large pitcher "Femme du Barbu",reached an amazing final price of 293 250 SEK and all objects from the collection were sold well over the estimate.
- In parallel with painting, Picasso devoted a lot of energy to the ceramics that we and our customers enjoyed today. We are proud of the great confidence we have been given to sell this dynamic collection of Picasso ceramics, says Eva Seeman, expert design and 20th century works of art department, Bukowskis.
Several magnificent vases by Berndt Friberg also exceeded expectations, and alongside the overall fantastic result from the ceramic department it shows a continued strong demand for high-quality handicrafts. The auction also featured several top numbers from sought-after French designers such as Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouvé & Charlotte Perriand and Serge Mouille.
- We presented an auction with an international standard in its selection, and the fantastic result shows that our customers span the world, says Jonathan Jahn, expert design and 20th century works of art, Bukowskis.
Bukowskis also proudly presented a unique curated selection of our leading Scandinavian designers with several unusual objects by, among others, Axel Einar Hjorth, whose well-known "Mora" table reached the outstanding final price of 404 250 SEK and the round glass and steel table "Typenko" realised 159 250 SEK. The auction's second delightful surprise was Folke Bensow, whose garden furniture in black-painted cast iron and green marble was sold for a final price of 159 250 SEK.
- It is amazing that our Nordic designers receive such great international interest, which the high final prices of the many fine Axel Salto vases, the chair "Swivel chair "by Hans J Wegner and Poul Kjaerholm's armchairs "PK 25" are great examples of, says Camilla Behrer, specialist modern design and craftsmanship.
The carpet ”Falurutan, grön Fabiola" by Barbro Nilsson is a very fine example that sold for a final price of 210 375 SEK, specialist carpets, textiles and Islamic works of art, says Anette Granlund, expert carpets, textiles and Islamic work of art.
