Introduced in the late 1970s, the Audemars Piguet reference 6005 represents an interesting chapter in the manufacture's history, combining the design language of the iconic Royal Oak with the emerging quartz technology of the era.
Designed by Jacqueline Dimier, the model shares several distinctive characteristics with the original Royal Oak, including its integrated bracelet and signature “Petite Tapisserie” dial. Interestingly, the model was never officially marketed as part of the Royal Oak collection, but rather as part of Audemars Piguet's early quartz offerings.
This particular example, dating to circa 1979, features the larger 32 x 41 mm case, often referred to by collectors as the “Jumbo” version. Crafted in stainless steel and 18K gold, it features a grey Petite Tapisserie dial and is powered by the quartz caliber 2511.
A distinctive example of late 1970s Audemars Piguet design, the Square Oak Jumbo offers an unusual interpretation of the integrated-bracelet sports watch that defined the era.
